Jason brings a strong background in building consumer products and working with large-scale data systems, along with a deep passion for advancing personalized learning. We’re thrilled to have him on the team as we continue to reimagine education through AI.
Tell us a bit about your background—what brought you to Kira, and why did this opportunity resonate with you?
I spent the past 5 years as a software engineer at Amazon working across consumer fitness products and the big data analytics space. What brought me to Kira was its mission. I remember using Khan Academy to rewatch topics that I didn't understand in class, and being able to learn at my own pace made a real difference for me. Personalized learning feels like the right next step and is something that I want to help build.
What are you most excited about as you start your journey here?
Working with teachers to see what we can build to assist them in better teaching, and also working with students on how we can make the product more engaging and helpful.
What’s something interesting or unique about yourself that your new colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Even though I grew up in Hawaii, I somehow picked up snowboarding before surfing.
How do you see your role contributing to Kira’s mission of transforming education through AI?
I want to help build something that allows students to feel like they have the proper support through Kira and their teacher regardless of the school that they go to.
When you’re not working, what do you love doing? Any hobbies, interests, or passion projects you’d like to share?
Exploring new restaurants and cafes, cycling when it's warm and snowboarding when it's cold.
